PUBLIC WORKS

PICKUP SCHEDULE & ROUTES

Household waste is collected twice weekly on Mondays and Thursdays or Tuesdays and Fridays on your assigned collection days. Household waste must be placed in the brown roll-out container and at the curb by 7:00 AM on your collection day.

Household trash is anything that would come out of your house that is not part of the construction or an attachment to the house.

FURNITURE: TVs, microwaves, couches, chairs, dressers, etc. (picked up on regular household trash days).

WHITE GOODS: Refrigerators, stoves, washers, dryers, hot water heaters, air conditioners and freezers. White goods are collected on Wednesday.

Along with white goods, we will pick up anything metal: Lawn mowers, grills, bicycles, heaters, swing sets, etc.

PAINT: Must be dried thoroughly with sand before it will be picked up.

THE TOWN DOES NOT PICK UP ANY CONSTRUCTION OR DEMOLITION MATERIALS.

Construction/Demolition Materials: Sheetrock, wood, siding, gutters, shingles, bricks, cement blocks, windows, doors, fencing material, toilets, tubs, sinks, carpet, padding.

The Town also does not pick up tires, car parts, gas, fuel, or any type of canister that contained any fuel.

YARD WASTE

Yard waste is collected on Wednesday. Yard waste should be placed in the green roll-out container and at curbside by 7:00 AM each Wednesday morning. Yard waste is anything that grows in your yard. Grass, leaves, pine straw, and small debris must be containerized (unless it is a scheduled time for loose leaf collection) and free of any household waste like paper, glass, etc. Limbs can be put in a pile adjacent to the curb with butt end toward the curb. No dirt or rocks should be placed in the container. Just because it may be in your yard doesn't necessarily make it yard waste.

RECYCLABLES

Recyclables are collected once a week on either Thursday or Friday by a Town garbage truck. They are taken to East Carolina Vocational Center for separation and sold to recyclers.

Recyclable items: Plastic drink bottles and milk jugs, clear brown and green glass food or beverage containers, aluminum cans. Newspapers bundled, not tied on top of the container. Wet newspapers are acceptable. Used motor oil should be placed in a clear plastic jug with a secure fitting lid and put beside the recycling bin.
