Flood Protection Information
In September of 1999 early one Thursday morning, Hurricane Floyd swept through Tarboro. The huricane's wind snapped electrical poles, uprooted trees, and damaged homes. The damage done by the hurricane's wind paled in comparison to the devastation unleashed on Tarboro by the massive flooding which occurred after torrential rains dropped 15 to 20 inches across eastern North Carolina. The entire town was without water and electricity for up to ten (10) days and sustained millions of dollars in damage.
This event underscored the need for the citizens of Tarboro to be informed about how to protect themselves from future flooding events. This page contains information that citizens can use to protect themselves and their property from flooding.
