Blount-Bridgers Garden Symposium

The Blount-Bridgers Garden Symposium will take place on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at Calvary Episcopal Church, 406 E. Church Street, Tarboro.
Martha Hartley, specialist with Old Salem Museum and Gardens in Winston-Salem, and Michael McConkey from the Edible Landscaping Nursery in Afton, VA, will be the featured speakers. Ms. Hartley will speak at the morning session discussing native plants and trees. Mr. McConkey will be featured at the afternoon session and will talk about the use of food producing plants in various landscapes.
Symposium events begin at 8:30 a.m. and continue until 5 p.m. The lectures will be presented in the Calvary Episcopal Church santuary, lunch will be served in the historic Calvary Churchyard and vendors will offer their wares on the Saint David Street side of the Church throughout the day. Eight local gardens will be on tour and afternoon tea will be served in the Blount-Bridgers Garden.
The morning session includes the talk by Martha Hartley, lunch in the churchyard, a tour of the churchyard, the Rick Williams garden, the Muse garden and the Blount-Bridgers Garden and costs $40. The afternoon session is $40 and includes the lecture by Michael McConkey, a tour of eight gardens and the 4 p.m. afternoon tea. Ticket cost for the entire day is $60 for tickets purchased in advance. Tickets purchased on the day of the tour are $70 and $50.
All proceeds benefit the restoration of the Blount-Bridgers Garden. Tickets may be purchased at the Blount-Bridgers House, Tarboro-Edgecombe Chamber of Commerce and the Edgecombe County Memorial Library and also at Calvary Church on the day of the tour.
