Tarboro's 250th Birthday Party

September 25, 2010

The Town of Tarboro's 250th Birthday Party, a "Semiquincentennial Jamboree", will take place on Saturday, September 25, 2010 on the historic Tarboro Town Common, beginning at 3 p.m.  A children's parade led by Paperhand Puppet Intervention - the group which made such a hit with Tarboreans at the 250th Celebration's opening event  - will kick off the party festivities.   Congressman G.K. Butterfield will be the keynote speaker for this event.  Adrian Chaves, winner of the Edgecombe County Memorial Library poetry contest held  this past spring, will read his winning poem "My Town".  Other scheduled events include the presentation of special birthday cards made by local students, singing Happy Birthday to the Town, face painting for children, and party music by the ecletic Greenville-based band "TrainWreck".

Everyone is invited to bring folding chairs or blankets and picnics and be prepared to have a big time. Free Birthday cake made by Sara Lee of Tarboro will be served, of course. Food vendors will also be selling their wares.  The entertainment and the birthday cakes are free to all.  Plan to come and party the afternoon away.
